The former Carolina Panthers wideout now works for CBS, and he’s kept it extremely real while he’s on air. He even called out Brock Osweiler for being, well, very bad at his job.
Smith was at his best during the pregame show before Thursday Night Football between his former team and the Philadelphia Eagles. Smith called himself the best wideout on the field and switched his pick when the rest of the crew tried to bully him about picking the Panthers to win.
The best part is that he picked the Panthers first, then was asked if he picked them because he lived there.
“I have to go with Carolina because you live here,” Bill Cowher said, which clearly made Smith upset.
“Oh don’t get it twisted,” Smith said. “I don’t have to go nowhere.”
After a bit more ribbing, Smith decided he was changing his pick.
“I’m going the Eagles. Change mine. I’m going with the Eagles,” Smith said.
That’s when Cowher asked Smith who the best receiver in the building was. And Smith didn’t disappoint.
“Who’s the best receiver on this field tonight, Steve Smith?” Cowher asked.
“He’s sitting right here!” Smith replied.
The whole sequence is hilarious, with Smith demanding that producers change the chyron to give him his pick of the Eagles. And while Kelvin Benjamin or some fella on the Eagles might get upset at his comment, it’s hard to blame Smith for saying it. He can probably still play at a high level. And his swagger is never going away.
