Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so of course us Brits take it very seriously.
Contrary to popular stereotypes we eat much more than the typical full English breakfast.
We actually have a range of choices that we’re proud to consider for our morning food fix.
Whether it is grabbing a sausage roll from Greggs on the way into work, or rustling up a bacon butty with plenty of brown sauce, there are certain tasty gems that only Brits have for breakfast.
1. Beans on toast
Ah the absolute classic dish that screams sophistication as well as practicality.
Will you scoop mountains of cereal into your gob? No, no you will not.
Instead you will delicately heat up a can of lovely baked beans, rustle up some toast and fill your tummy on this. If you’re feeling fancy you might even sprinkle a dusting of cheese on top.
2. Tea and biscuits
A great saviour for those who fancy a little extra snoozing and less time preparing food.
A strong cuppa, followed by a few digestives will definitely get you prepared to face the rest of the day.
3. Egg soliders
Take a soft boiled egg, some strips of toast and proceed to dunk to your heart’s content.
A true culinary hero for hungry Brits everywhere, just try not to drip yolk all over yourself.
4. Full English breakfast
So good that we even seek it out on every single holiday overseas and nothing creates more panic abroad than a sign informing us that only a continental breakfast is available.
Only acceptable when slathered in copious amounts of butter, and served nice and warm.
Perfect with a strong cup of tea.
6. British pancakes
These pancakes are a reflection of our British need to be understated and not showy, unlike our American cousins.
Often nice and thin, served with sugar and lemon juice, they are way more yummier than the fluffy American style.
7. Bubble and Squeak
We’re an economical bunch, and what better way to prove this by scooping up vegetable leftovers from the Sunday roast and creating a breakfast dish?
Healthy, filling and thrifty.
Pass the brown sauce please.
8. Sausage Roll
If you really have pushed the boundaries of the snooze alarm, and find yourself frantically racing to work, wearing a creased outfit, odd socks and toothpaste on your sleeve, then the only thing that can save you is a sausage roll from Greggs.
Sausage rolls are always there for you in hard times, fairly priced and taste just as good when cold.
9. Bacon butty
The hangover saviour to help ease the aftermath of even the wildest of nights.
Best when made with white bread and a lot of brown sauce. Chuck a fried egg in there if you’re feeling adventurous.
10. Baked bean omelette
Why bother scooping eggs and beans onto a fork painfully, when you could save time by combining them into an omelette?
Forget adding fancy continental European stuff like expensive cheese and peppers, go British and whack in a can of baked beans.
Truly, the breakfast of champions.
