FOMWAG Inaugurates Madina Branch

A National Executive addressing the Women

The National Executives of the Federation of Muslim Women Association in Ghana (FOMWAG) on Saturday inaugurated the Madina branch of the association.

The colourful event which was under the theme “Responsibilities of the Muslim Woman in Ramadan” took place at the forecourt of the Central Mosque, Madina in the Greater Accra region.

The President of the Madina branch, Hajia Saadatu Maida addressing the huge gathering of Muslim women and men indicated that FOMWAG is an umbrella organization which embraces all Muslim Women in Ghana under a common platform.

FOMWAG serves as an advocacy platform championing the cause of Muslim Women in Education, Health, Home Management and Entrepreneurial Skills Development and other social related issues.

“The Muslim woman by this arrangements has discovered her place in our religion and is better placed to  boldly speak out in public places to express herself both in government and in the home and a clearer understanding of reasons surrounding the use  of her veil even at the work place” she remarked.

Speaking on the forthcoming Ramadan, Hajia Saadatu called on Muslim Women to take advantage of the events of the spiritual season to renew their domestic commitments so as to maximize their divine and physical rewards from Allah.

Hajia Ramatu Aliu Mahama, former second lady of the Republic of Ghana lauded FOMWAG for the inauguration of the Madina branch which according to her was an indication of the women’s acceptance of the mission of the association.

She said the time has come for Muslim Women to move out of their world of seeing mediocrity as being enough into the new dispensation of women capable of achieving a lot both for the families and nation.

The Greater Accra Regional President, Hajia Iklimatu Otoo said FOMWAG has a number of branches located at Amasama, Nima, Ada, Sukara, Korle Gonno, La Teshie, Nungua and Tema.

She was happy that the association has made significant impact in the lives of Muslim women in the country and was very confident it will continue to serve as beacon of hope for them.
