Class 5 pupil commits suicide at Achimota

A class five (5) pupil of Aggrey Primary School at Achimota, Accra last Saturday allegedly committed suicide by hanging.

The deceased, Belinda Gablah, 15, who lived with her grandfather and other siblings, was spotted by her younger sister hanging from a nylon rope at her Dome Pillar ‘2’ residence.

The Accra Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO), Assistant Superintended of Police (ASP), Effia Tenge, confirmed that tragedy to the Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday.

She said at about 7.30pm on March 11, the police heard the sad news and proceeded to the scene.

ASP Tenge said the deceased’s grandfather, Edward Agbemablah, told the police that on the fateful day, they went to bed after dinner.

The police PRO said according to Mr. Agbemablah, few minutes after they went to bed, the deceased’s younger sister, Janet, saw Belinda, who was unconscious, to the hospital, but died on arrival.

She said the body had been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary in Accra for autopsy.
