The New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma South, Jerry Ahmed Shaibu, is accusing his main rival in the ongoing parliamentary election in the area of votes buying.
Shaibu interacting with Fiifi Banson on Kasapa 102.5 FM over happenings in Wednesday’s elections alleged that the city Major has formed his own observer group who are going round the various Polling Stations in the constituency under the disguise of observing the poll.
But the group, he noted, is sharing money amongst electorate who have formed long queues waiting to cast their ballot.
“My major opponent, Hon. Dr. Dr. Okoe Vanderpuije has formed his own observer group and what they are doing is that they are under the clock of doing an observation but they are sharing money. I also don’t know what the kind of observation this group is doing,” he noted.
Shaibu commenting further also alleged that the city Mayor nearly run him down with his vehicle when they heard that Mr. Vanderpuije had some ballot boxes with thumb printed papers and that the Police had intercepted them.
“On Monday, December 5, 2016, we heard that he had some ballot boxes with thumb printed papers and that the Police have intercepted those ballot boxes around Rawlings’ residence. And if you go and check from the Police Records, those on night duty yesterday will tell you that they intercepted the thumb printed ballot papers and they had a call from above and they didn’t know what to do. So these are the major issues,” he said.
He added “When we went there and they (Police) realized that the information was going round, they quickly replaced the men. But I went there personally and the Police Officers were only begging that we don’t record them because they were also amused and amazed about the whole thing. That is what happened last night. Then I saw Okoe and he virtually run me down with his vehicle.”
Mr. Shaibu also accused Mr. Vanderpuije of surrounding himself land guards who are wearing tags as National Security officers.
