A 13-year-old boy accused of stealing a mobile phone worth GH¢ 500 has been allegedly assaulted by angry youth at Wasa Akropong in the Western region.
The victim, Abdul Raman who is currently in a critical condition in the hospital according to the District Police Commander, ASP Daniel Amoako is said to have stolen a mobile phone which belonged to one of the youth in the area.
ASP Amoako said residents claim the angry youth after arresting the boy hanged him on a tree and subjected him to beatings until he fell unconscious.
Residents he continued, claimed the victim went into the phone shop with the intention of stealing one of the phones. While leaving the shop, some men called him back and accused him of taking the mobile phone.
He said when Abdul denied taking the phone; the men pounced on him and beat him to pulp and further threatened to kill him if he failed to produce the phone.
But for the intervention of the police, ASP Daniel Amoako said the angry mob would have killed the victim. However, no arrest has been made.
Investigations has begun to bring the culprits to book.
