The West African Examination Council (WAEC) is cautioning the general public especially students against fraudsters who claim they are able to change examination results for candidates.
According to strong-worded notice issued by the council and available to 233livenews, some unscrupulous individuals succeed in defrauding unsuspecting students and guardians of several thousands of cedis with the claim they could facilitate students get better grades after their WAEC examination.
The statement indicated that these individuals often target candidates who take Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and capitalize on their anxiety.
Investigations carried out by 233livenews reveal victims are often contacted via the internet. Our checks reveal several of such fraudsters have advertised their contact numbers on various platforms over the internet and this makes it easy for anxious exam takers to reach them and make requests. The fraudsters also demand payment via Mobile Money in most instances.
WAEC is therefore advising the general public to report any such persons who attempt to talk them in to helping to change examination grades to call and report to 0302208209 extension 2169 or the Police.
