Over 17,000 Students Fail To Gain Admission to University of Ghana

More than 17,000 students seeking admission to the University of Ghana this year failed to secure their place in the school. Although most of the applicants were qualified, the University had to turn down their applications due to limitations with staff and facilities.

A total of over 35,635 applications made up of 28,665 undergraduate applications and 6,965 graduate application were received this year. Of the number, only 18,106, made up of 14,737 undergraduates and 3,369 graduates were admitted to pursue various programs on the Main, City and Korle-Bu campuses of the University as well as the distance education program.

Speaking at the 2015 matriculation ceremony for freshmen at the University of Ghana on Saturday, Vice Chancellor Professor Ernest Aryeetey noted that about 8,000 students of the 18,106 admitted had accepted the admission and subsequently registered for their academic programs.

He added that, “the University continued with its policy of giving the opportunity of university education to applicants from less endowed schools on concessionary basis.”
