South Africa: President Zuma Suspends National Police Commissioner

General Victoria PhiyegaSouth Africa President, Jacob Zuma has suspended the National Police Commission, General Victoria Phiyega with immediate effect.
The suspension which is on full pay comes after the president considered a response from the commissioner received on 28 September 2015, in which she made representations to him as to why the President should not exercise the power conferred upon him under section 8(3)(a) of the South African Police Service Act, 1995, to suspend her pending the outcome of the Board of Inquiry which the President has established.
In a statement issued by the Presidency on Thursday, the President said the commissioner had been suspended in accordance with section 8(3)(a) of the South African Police Service Act, 1995 over allegations of misconduct, her fitness to hold the office and her capacity to execute official duties efficiently.
