Pressure Group To Demonstrate in Koforidua Over New Voters Register

Rail workers demonstrationA pressure group, Movement for Joint Action (MJA) is set to demonstrate in the Eastern Regional capital to press home demands for a new voter register.

Scheduled for Thursday 22nd October, 2015, the demonstration dubbed “New Voter Register Now, the guarantee to 2016 peaceful election” will among other things enable people in the Eastern Region register their displeasure at the the Mahama-led NDC administration’s longstanding economic hardship meted on citizens for the past seven years.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been heavily criticized by for being lackadaisical in agreements to get the Electoral Commission commence processes to review Ghana’s voters register.

Sections of the public including members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Let My Vote Count Alliance have in the past few weeks embarked on massive demonstrations in Accra and made strong cases on the need for a new voters’ register. They premise their demands on purported evidence that includes the names of several hundreds of foreigners in the list.

According to Joshua Norbi, Director of Communication of the Movement for Joint Action, the hundreds of demonstrators who will hit the streets of Koforidua will hold a peaceful procession throughout the town.
