An initiative by the former JCR executives of Valco Hall at the University of Cape Coast intended to be a blessing to residents of the hall and prevent them from feeling the full brunt of the ongoing national load shedding exercise may become a burden to residents.
Hall management is demanding an amount of GHc105 and GHc125 from continuing students and freshmen respectively to defray the cost of the generator which was procured in July this year and fuel it.
A notice issued by management of the hall a week after the purchase indicated that freshmen were to pay the amount before their residential registration.
The immediate past Junior Common Room (JCR) executive of the hall led by Mr. Kingsley Akowua had procured the 500 KVA generating plant following the incessant power outages at the hall.
In a separate development, the Students Representative Council of the University of Ghana is yet to give an official communication on how funds to fuel the various power plants secured for almost all the halls on campus will be sourced.
