The West African Examination Council has officially announced for the information of the general public especially candidates who took part in its Senior Secondary Examinations that results for the 2015 May/June exams has been released.
Results of all candidates presented by 185 out of 810 public and private second cycle schools have been withheld pending investigations into alleged examination malpractices.
Out of the 268,771 candidates who took part in the exams, one thousand eight hundred and fifty-nine (1,859) had their subject results cancelled while 453 candidates had their entire results cancelled.
Eight candidates, who had their entire results cancelled, have been barred from taking any of Waec’s exams for two years.
The number of absentees was 1,015.
Addressing the media in Accra, the Head of WAEC Ghana, Very Rev. Sam Nii Nmai Ollennu noted that participation in this year’s exam was 11 per cent higher than the previous year.
Rev. Ollennu has urged the public to discredit social media messages circulating on ‘Whatsapp’ about the results and a purported ranking of the various schools’ performance.
