UG Reopening Date Remains Unchanged Despite UTAG Strike

University of GhanaStudents of the University of Ghana are expected to return to school on Wednesday 12th August, in spite of the ongoing strike by University teachers.

A statement signed by the acting head of Academic Affairs of the Students’ Representative Council, Mr. Maxwell Annor noted that online registration for students is expected to commence soon.

Some students anticipated an extension of the date of reopening after University teachers declared a strike on Wednesday.

The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) on Wednesday withdrew teaching services in protest over the non-payment of their 2014/2015 Book and Research Allowances but government has appealed to the association of call off the action as it is working urgently to pay the arrears.

Last year, UTAG embarked on a five-week strike over their allowances that led to a delay in the reopening of public Universities for the start of the academic year.

It remains unclear whether other Universities will maintain their scheduled reopening dates.
