Nigeria: Former EC Boss Resumes Duty as University Lecturer

Prof. Atahiru JegaThe immediate past Chairman of Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission, Attahiru Jega has returned to his office at the Bayero University in Kano as a senior lecturer.

Jega, who left office last week after completion of his 5-year tenure was sighted in his office at the University where he was vice chancellor before his appointment as INEC boss in June 2010 by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

He was a political science lecturer before his appointment and once served as the national president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

Jega had announced earlier in June that he would return to the academic profession after his retirement from teh commission.

Mr. Jega retired as INEC chairman last Tuesday on a note of successfully organized two national elections; in 2011 and 2015 elections which has been widely praised globally as a huge success.
