Hours after the US Supreme Court declared same-sex marriage across the United States legal, calls have intensified in Australia for the same law to passed there.
The oceanian country has in recent years been divided along the lines of pro or anti same-sex marriage with a survey indicating majority support the calls for same sex marriage although its currently illegal.
The last few hours have seen a renewed campaign to legalize same-sex marriage in the country. A popular Australian outdoor dance music festival and electronic music events organisation, Earthcore on Saturday called on the public to share an LGBT decorated image to “help make the same rights [same-sex marriage] a reality in Australia.”
Currently, Same sex couples cannot adopt children in Queensland, Victoria, the Northern Territory or South Australia.
Liberal Prime Minister Tony Abbott remains a strong opponent of same-sex marriage, though he has faced pressure to allow a free vote on the issue.
