The Community Service Award is an award scheme aimed at cultivating a spirit of volunteerism and community service among young people. The award is sponsored by the Osei-Kusi Foundation (OKF) and Selfless 4Africa Inc. (S4A).
Participation in the scheme is open to tertiary students across the country. Groups of 3 to 5 tertiary students identify a deprived community in Ghana and come up with an innovative proposal to address some of the needs of the youth in that community.
This year, the Award scheme received 30 submissions from students from ten tertiary institutions including University of Ghana, University of Professional Studies, University of Mines & Technology, Garden City University, Wisconsin International University, Radford University, University of Cape Coast, Catholic University College and Kwame Nkrumah University Science and Technology.
Out of the applications received, 6 teams were shortlisted to present at the Grand Finale and awards ceremony. A winner will be chosen at the ceremony by a panel of 7 distinguished judges and awarded a grant of GH₵ 10,000 to implement the community project.
The ceremony will be held under the distinguished patronage of the Honourable Minister of Education and the President of the Association of Ghana Industries.
The Foundation seeks to use the Awards scheme as a platform to drive volunteerism, innovation and community service among tertiary students and the youth at large. The platform will also be used to honour corporate bodies that partner youth groups and students to innovatively tackle social problems facing the country.
The shortlisted teams to present at the ceremony are:
Hon. Minister of Education, Hon. Minister of Local Government, President & representatives of the Association of Ghana Industries, Vice-Chancellors and staff of tertiary institutions, civil society organizations, members of the diplomatic corps, the media and local and international development organizations, students and youth groups.
