Water shortage Hits Kumasi Children’s Home

Water problemA mass disconnection exercise carried out by the Ghana Water Company Limited(GWCL) last Friday forced the residents of the Kumasi Children Home to the use of sachets of water.

The children in home were also forced to go to bed without bathing.

Authorities at the orphanage confirmed that they have not had water  since the GWCL had disconnected the orphanage. One of the employees who spoke to a local journalist in Kumasi, Eliasu Tanko said they find the situation worrying.

“We have been working around kids and especially with babies and kids we need a lot of water to wash them down.We are not finding it easy at all in terms of bathing them ,feeding them, washing clothing and all that. It is quite terrible,” she stated.

She said though the government is supposed to help the orphanage in paying its bills for sometime now, they have stopped supporting them.

GWCL cuts water supply to KNUST over GHC6m debt

A similar situation hit the Kumasi University of Science and Technology(KNUST).

The GWCL cut water supply to KNUST over unpaid bills.

The development  affected other public institutions including the Kumasi Central Prisons and Kumasi Polytechnic.

Some students expressed their frustrations about the challenge.

“Students have to go to different hostels to take their bath. People have to go their boyfriend’s place to take their bath. People have to go fetch water downstairs. The time that we use for fetching water can be used for something else. Its really affecting us,”an agitated student complained.

” I don’t get water and it is very very irritating actually. We are in room that uses WC, we need to bath …,”one other student stated .
