It follows several rumours he was going to contest the Ofoase Ayirebi constituency primaries of the NPP.
The former host of the Joy FM Super morning Show was tightlipped on the matter which generated some amount of controversy in the media.
On Sunday a group calling itself the Akyemansa Youth For Oppong Nkrumah (AYFON) in an interview with Myjoyonline.com vowed to make the broadcaster their Member of Parliament.
They had already organised a number of press conferences to rally delegates of the NPP ahead of the party’s primaries scheduled for May 24, 2015.
Led by one Paul Asamoah the group picked up forms for the Ofoase Ayirebi Parliamentary primaries on behalf of Oppong-Nkrumah, albeit without his consent.
He said they were hopeful they would be able to convince Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah to contest the seat on their behalf.
It appears the group achieved its quest.
Later Sunday, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah took to facebook to formally confirm and announce his decision to vie for the Ofoase Ayirebi seat.
“I will like to officially announce that I will be running for the Parliamentary Candidature of the New Patriotic Party in the Ofoase-Ayirebi constituency.
“My decision to run for public office is not one I have made lightly. I have weighed the calls and encouragements to run, against the potential risks and discomforts of Political life. I have spent weeks consulting with delegates and members of my community and my family.
“In Ghana today many of us complain about the ills of our nation. However, few of us are willing to offer ourselves to be part of the process of fixing these ills. Many of us think nothing can be done. Others think the costs will be too high.
After careful consideration, I am of the view that many more of us can put aside our personal needs and take up a challenge higher than ourselves. I believe that many more of us who are unhappy with the status-quo must step up and be part of the process of fixing our problems,” he said.
Kojo-Oppong Nkrumah is the second high-profile personality to contest on the ticket of the NPP in the 2016 Parliamentary election.
Former head of Marketing at MTN George Andah has already announced his decision to contest the Awutu Senya West Constituency.
Even though ace broadcaster Gifty Anti was also named as one of the high-profile broadcasters she has dismissed any interest to contest Parliamentary elections, at least for now.
