A helicopter carrying some consignment of gold from Anglogold at Obuasi to Accra crash landed at Asafoa, a remote village near Akyem Oda in the Eastern Region Wednesday afternoon.
Fortunately, the helicopter did not explode, and according to the Birim Central Municipal Fire Officer, Mr Daniel Allotey, there were also no casualties.
Mr Allotey told Graphiconline’s Eastern Regional Correspondent, Naa Lamiley Bentil that his office received a call from the police at about 2:00 pm.
Following that call, a joint team of police and fire service personnel were dispatched to the scene.
“We searched the bush for about 20 minutes before locating the damaged helicopter,” he said
Mr Allotey, further explained that the pilot had earlier called Anglogold and another helicopter had carried the three passengers and the consignment to Accra before they got to the scene.
