Power has been fully restored in Accra after over 15 hours of total blackout in the capital arising from a explosion at the Achimota power station on Thursday.
According Public Relations officer of the Ghana Grid Company, (GRIDCo), Albert Quainoo, the unfortunate problem which occurred at its part of the substation at Achimota forced the Electricity Company of Ghana to cut off supply to consumers.
At about 7.30pm, most residents in Accra including some in Tema and the Akuapim range had their power supply cut off unexpectedly due to “a problem with one of the lines feeding into the GRIDCo substation. It got isolated from the tower and the resultant effect was flashes on the line.”
According to PR officer of ECG, Mr William Boateng, the event prompted intensive work at the station throughout the night to ensure power was restored to consumers. He however added that the ongoing load shedding and management program will continue after power is fully restored.
