Fire has gutted the Makola no. 2 market in Accra. According to reports reaching 233 Live News, the fire started at about 4:30am Friday, few hours after a heavy downpour.
Goods and property worth millions of cedis have been destroyed.
Police are preventing reporters and some affected shop owners from entering the market to assess the extent of damage and attempt to salvage some property.
Some officials of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) have arrived at the scene monitoring the situation.
Fire personnel are currently at the scene battling the inferno. A similar outbreak occurred in June last year and was attributed to arsonists.
