The just ended Students’ Representatives Council election of the University of Ghana may be declared null and void following a petition filed at the Supreme Court of Justice of the SRC Judicial Committee to challenge the validity of the SRC elections conducted on 26th March, 2014.
The petitioners, Obeng Daniel and Davies Ohene-Fobih, both level 200 students and residents of Commonwealth Hall and Dr. Hilla-Liman Hall respectively are praying the court to declare the elections held at the various halls of residence on campus null and void. they among others are seeking the declaration of SRC President elect Mr. Joshua Dogbe as void and with no effect with a perpetual restraining order on Mr. Jerry John Asiedu from holding himself out as legal adviser of the SRC.
The petitioners are also seeking an order from the court to rerun the elections.
Prior to the election, the two petitioners secured an injunction from the court to stop the electoral process however the Electoral Commission continued the process unperturbed, explaining it had not received any such official communication.
The respondents, Joshua Dogbe, SRC electoral commission and legal adviser to the SRC are yet to respond formally to the petition.
Efforts by 233 Live News to reach the respondents for comments proved futile.
