Security at all four entry points of the University of Ghana have been beefed up following a Monday morning mini protest by angry parents of pupils of the University of Ghana Baisc School who blocked the GIMPA Link Gate entry of the University with their cars to agitate their denial of access through the University.
The situation which resulted in total chaos with University security personnel watching helplessly and in distraught resulted in the deployment of some men from the Greater Accra Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Division (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service led by the commander DSP Bismark Addae.
According to Reverend Acheampong Boakye-Yiadon, the Vice Chairman of the UPS PTA, a preliminary meeting with the MTTD personnel and some management officials of the University ended with a resolve that the gate should be open to all for a period as management considers their proposals.
Although he assured motorists with or without stickers would now be permitted to and from the University’s Link Gate, University of Ghana security personnel continued to deny entry to persons without stickers and did otherwise to persons who had them.
The situation further angered some parents who were around the gate threatening to cause another blockade. This necessitated the beefing up of security the entrance.
Head of Campus Security ACP Rtd. Amadu Salifu said the situation at the entrance called for more men to ensure peace and order. A total of about 7 security personnel were sighted at the time of 233 Live News‘ visit Monday evening. Hitherto, there were four personnel.
