An unexpected heavy downpour on Wednesday night brought to a halt vehicular movements across Ghana’s capital, Accra as most drivers of commercial vehicles refused to transport passengers for fear of a fatal accident from poor visibility.
The heavy downpour which started around 7.45pm Monday evening with accompanying thunderstorms left several areas flooded and some roads immortorable.
Most of the transport stations visited by 233 Live News had unusually several idled with their drivers and mates out to seek cover under nearby sheds.
At the New Achimota Bus Terminal, several passengers were left stranded as most drivers insisted they had closed for the day. Others, although willing to transport passengers to their various destinations maintained they will only do so after the intensity of the rain had reduced.
According to a driver plying the Achimota-Legon route, the heavy downpour largely affected visibility hence his decision to move only after the rain was for the safety of all.
