Airtel Ghana Suspends Corporate Relations Manager Over Facebook Post

Kwame GyanMobile telecom company, Airtel Ghana has suspended its Corporate Relations Manager, Kwame Gyan over comments he made on his facebook wall on February 21, purported to be treasonable.

A line of Mr. Gyan’s post which read “I wish we had guts like the people of Ukraine” has been a base for many critics who called on Airtel Ghana to take action against their employee.

A group calling itself Great Democrats of the ruling National Democratic Congress that has been leading calls for the removal of Kwame Gyan from his post in an interview on Radio Univers, Behind the Headlines Monday evening said the action taken by management of Airtel was in the right direction and would serve as deterrence to others.

According to reports, Mr. Kwame Gyan has been suspended indefinitely with his salaries withheld as management investigates the matter.

  1. This is rubbish. Doesnt the guy have personal life? All you can do is to disassociate your entity from the post. Unless Airtel want some favours from govt.

  2. What happened to freedom of speech,the freedom to express ourselves,If he said He wished we had guts,Its his opinion,Bad move from Airtel, Dissapointed in them they should have defended their employee

  3. The fact that you are a Relations Manager implies you can’t share your personal opinion on any matters bothering you? Why then did we embrace technology and for that matter Facebook? Why single him out for this mere statement? Does his statement expose Airtel in anyway? Don’t we have high profile personalities make dubious comments yet are on our streets walking freely? Mr Kwame Gyan, it is well.
