United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon will from 4th to 6th March 2014 be in the Sierra Leone for the second time to participate in the official ceremony to mark the close of the United Nations Integrated Peace-building Office In Sierra Leone (UNIPSIL).
UNIPSIL was established by the United Nations Security Council in 2008 to provide support to the Government of Sierra Leone in identifying and resolving tensions and threats of potential conflict, monitoring and promoting human rights and consolidating good governance reforms.
After five (5) years of effective operation in the country and successful achievement of considerable peace and stability, Sierra Leone seeks to focus on national development.
According to the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2097, UNIPSIL will be closed on 31st March 2014.
Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon will on his visit meets with President Dr. Ernest Bai, Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. Samura Kamara,The Diplomatic Community, Representatives of Political Parties, Civil Society and other National stakeholders as well as the UN Family in the country.
