Nigeria: President Jonathan fires ministers

Goodluck JonathanNigerian President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday fired four ministers of his government in a recent governmental shake-up.

Amongst the sacked ministers are Stella Odua, former minister of Aviation who is known to be a close friend of the President. Her sack comes on the heels of several allegations of corruption, including the famous $1.5 expenditure on two bullet proof luxury vehicles, all of which she has denied.

While Stella Oduah’s sack may earn Mr. Jonathan a good name, it remains evident that several members of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP)  have defected to the main opposition party, All Progressive Congress (APC) due to some actions and inactions.

Current happenings within the President’s PDP leaves the party divided as to whether to give him the chance to contest again on the ticket of the party in the upcoming general elections next year.
