The Member of Parliament for Tema West constituency, Hon. Irene Naa Torshie Addo has said the Tema Development Corporation’s demolishing exercise at Adjei Kojo, a suburb of Tema is not justified considering the fact that the due procedures were not followed before the exercise took place.
According to her, the corporation did not get a writ of possession from the court to legalize their action.
In an interview with 233 Live News in Parliament after delivering a statement on the floor of the House Thursday, the Honourable member said the action has left over 2000 residents vulnerable with over 500 structures both completed and uncompleted razed.
She however called for the heads of all persons responsible for checking and supervising the construction of the supposed illegal structures, adding that persons who sold the lands in question must be punished and not those who bought them.
“If they don’t have permits, how come those at Electricity Corporation gave them Electricity? Somebody signed and look at it while they built for seven to ten years. All those head s must roll. We must all get to the state where we release that they may have been wrong…..the persons who sold it should be punished” she said.
The Tema Development Corporation between 22nd and 27th January, 2014 under the supervision of about 200 police and military personnel demolished over 500 houses with claims that residents had to acquired the needed permit for construction and that criminals had made that place their haven.
