TDC explains demolition to Parliamentary committee

DemolishThe Tema Development Cooperation (TDC) has been offering explanations to the Parliamentary Select Committee on Water Resources, Works and Housing over its recent demolition at Adjei-Kojo.

The TDC demolished dozens of houses in the Tema West Constituency about two weeks ago with support from armed Police and Military team.

The exercise has since rendered about 3,000 residents in the area homeless.

A former Minister for Local Government, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, expressed disappointment in the manner in which the TDC demolished houses in the Constituency.

According to him, the TDC should have dialogued with the people to move instead of rendering them homeless – a suggestion the TDC dismissed.

The Public Relations Officer of the TDC , Dorothy Asare Kuma said failure of the residents to comply with rules given by the TDC, compelled the demolition

Anger and public outcry over the issue has compelled the Committee to summon top officials of the TDC for interrogation.

The Deputy Chairman of the Committee, Frank Adu Blay-Koffie, told Citi News, members will visit the demolished site to know the next line of action to take.

“We have taken a decision to visit those whose structures that have been demolished and listen to their side of the story,” he said.
