PHOTO: Thieves Arrested With Stolen Kantamanto Goods

Kantamanto thiefPolice have arrested three persons believed to have stolen 22 bales of used clothing, shoes and other assorted goods belonging to traders whose wares were burnt in the last Sunday fire outbreak.

The suspects are Abdulai Issah, Gariba Asowon and Amudu Rahman Abubakari.

This adds to eight, the number of suspected thieves nabbed for stealing some of the goods belonging to the traders during the fire outbreak.

The five who were arrested earlier by the Railways Police last Monday included Gilbert Ayikuya, 20; Joseph Appiah, 29; Kwabena Ntow, 25; Kofi Yeboah, 31 and Isaac Koranteng, 18.

Twenty-two sacks of the goods were retrieved by the police from the three suspects.

Narrating the story to the media, Superintendent Barffour Apenteng, the Deputy Accra Regional Crime Officer, said the suspects took advantage of the fire raging at Kantamanto market and looted an unspecified number of goods.

On Monday May 6, 2013, suspect Abdulai Issah was arrested following information at June 4 Lane, a suburb of Kantamanto, having in his possession a bale of used clothing and a number of used footwear tied in three sacks.

The following day, suspects Gariba Asowon and Amudu Rahman Abubakari were also arrested having in their possession, 20 bales of used clothing around the railway station, all suspected to have been stolen from the market.

The items were brought to the station together with the suspects for questioning.
