Less than 52 hours after traders and hawkers in the Kantamanto main market burst into uncontrollable tears following a terrible fire outbreak that swept through two-thirds of the market, destroying property worth millions of Ghana cedis, a fire explosion has hit another portion of the market which was earlier unaffected by Sunday’s outbreak.
The loud explosion was heard around noon on Tuesday. According to eye witnesses 233livenews spoke to, the explosion was from a gas cylinder which was being used in a nearby ‘chop bar’ operating in a makeshift wooden structure.
Fire service personnel arrived promptly at the scene to prevent another catastrophe.
It is unclear the number of injured or if there was any.
Meanwhile, security presence in the area has been intensified as victims of the previous fire outbreak have threatened a violent demonstration against city authorities.
