Swedru: Farmer Remanded For Shooting Dog

jail cell arrestThe Akim Swedru Circuit Court, has remanded in prison custody Charles Coffie, a farmer, for allegedly shooting a dog valued GHȼ1,500.00.

Coffie, who pleaded not guilty to possessing firearm without authority and cruelty to animal, would reappear on May 6, 2013.

Prosecuting Police Inspector Kwaku Appiah said the complainant is a driver who lives at Community ‘6’ at Akim Oda.

Inspector Appiah said on March 3, 2013 at about 0600 hours Coffie was returning from his farm with his locally manufactured gun and met the dog which barked at him on his way home.

All of sudden the accused shot the dog at the right elbow and the owner reported the matter to the Police and Coffie was arrested.

The dog has since been treated and alive, the Inspector concluded.
