Nigeria: Two Jailed For Biting Off Man’s Ear

Court Gavel22-year old Kelechi Ojobo and 21-year-old Faith Chinweife were on Wednesday remanded by an Upper Area Court, sitting in Gwagwalada, Abuja for allegedly biting off a man’s ear.

The two persons involved are a boy(Kelechi) and a girl(Faith) who work as sales boy and girl respectively at Channel 5 Beer Parlour, Kuje Road, in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

They were arraigned on a two-count charge of joint act and causing grievous hurt.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Modupe Musa, told the court that the duo teamed to beat up one Dennis Manger, their customer who lives in the same area, on April 8.

Musa said during the fight, Faith chopped off the complainant’s right ear, thereby inflicting deep wound on the said ear.

The prosecutor said Manger could no longer hear well with the ear.

The prosecutor prayed the court for an adjournment to enable her to call witnesses. The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Their counsel, Mr Edo Okayan, urged the court to grant them bail.

Okayan said there was no medical proof indicating that the complainant has completely lost his hearing through the said ear as claimed.

The presiding judge, Mr Babanginda Hassan, adjourned the case to June 5 for hearing and ordered the accused to be remanded in prison.
