Proving to their fans and customers that they are indeed doing legitimate business and are real is one reason many businesses, public figures and government agencies yearn to have their accounts verified on twitter.
Getting one’s twitter account has never being a race but sets the verified somewhat high above the numerous other unverified accounts.
With the likes of Ghana-based figures such as President John Mahama, – @JDMahama, Vice President Amissah-Arthur – @KBAmissahArthur , US Embassy Ghana – @USEmbassyGhana, Ghana Music Award winner Elorm Adablah – @ELrepGH and BET Awards 2012 Best International Act & Ghana’s Best Rapper Michael Owusu Addo – @Sarkodie having their accounts verified, it seemed it was a time for Ghana to experience some mass verification coming through but it hasn’t been that easy especially for corporate businesses on twitter. It is for this reason Mobile Telecom giant, Tigo, being the first telecom company in Ghana to be verified is big news.
Tigo Ghana was verified earlier in April, setting the pace but this raises a major question; What are other businesses, especially the other Telecom operators doing wrongly?
What ever the answers are, we all would agree that there is obviously a little criteria one would have to meet to be get that little blue check as a sign of a verified account beside their name on twitter. One I can mention is that, you must be very active on the social media platform and that Tigo Ghana matches to.
Operating under the Luxembourg-based Millicom International Cellular S.A, Tigo Ghana per my quick check joins her sisters in Honduras, Paraguay, Guatemala and Columbia who have also had their twitter accounts verified.
