Police Hospital Overflows With Pregnant Women

The maternity block at the Police Hospital in Accra is overflowing with pregnant mothers as a result of the doctors’ strike.

Health Minister, Sherry Ayittey and Interior Minister Kwesi Ahwoi toured the Police Hospital and other health facilities.

Doctors at the Police Hospital are not part of the strike and have had to bear with excessive number of patients have who been turned away from other hospitals.

Joynews Beatrice Adu who was with them at the Police Hospital noticed that extra beds have been added in the maternity ward.

A section of the Out Patient Department (OPD) is also to be converted into a maternity ward.

ACP George Mensah, the hospital administrator also confirmed that the visitor’s washroom at the male block is being converted in to maternity ward
He also said two mobile theatres with a ward capacity of 16 patients have been made available to contain the situation.

Interior minister said he believed it was time government put in place long term measure to deal with emergency situations whenever doctors declared strike.

He said his Ministry and the Ministries of Health and Finance will be meeting today to decide on how to roll out a strategy.
