Former US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton has declared her support and full backing of gay marriage.
In an online campaign video released today, she said; “LGBT Americans are our colleagues, our teachers, our soldiers, our friends and our loved ones, and they are full and equal citizens and deserve the rights of citizenship. That includes marriage……that’s why I support marriage for lesbian and gay couples. I support it personally and as a matter of policy and law.”
In the six-minute video, she stated that her position on the issue was as a result of her personal experience, experience as the nation’s top diplomat and her love of the law.
The former Secretary of State’s support does not come as a surprise to many as her husband and daughter are known public supporters of gay marriage.
In Geneva about a year ago, Hillary is remembered to have said that “gay rights are human rights, and human rights are gay rights.”
One thing that makes her decision a big issue is the fact that she might be running for presidency in 2016, and gay rights will somewhat play a key role in people’s choice of a leader.
