Firefighters responded promptly to the distress call and arrived at the scene to control the inferno from spreading to other offices on the building.
The building, which belongs to former Black Stars defender, Samuel Osei Kuffour is a multi-storey building that occupied by various institutions.
The third floor of the building was completely destroyed by the raging fire. The ground floor of the building houses Access bank. The Sikkim Manipal University shares the 3rd and 4th floors with NIIT and two other institutions.
Though the cause of the fire was not immediately known, several speculated it was as a result of an electrical fault.
A worker at the premises said she noticed the fire at about 6:30am when she was going about her normal duties. An attempt by security officers to extinguish the fire after she raised the alarm proved unsuccessful as the extinguishers failed to function. The fire service was called in eventually after initial attempts to reach them proved futile.
The wife of Osei Kuffour who arrived at the scene to assess the extent of damage caused by the inferno has not made any statements concerning the situation.
The Regional Police PRO, DSP Freeman Tettey said fire officers will commence investigations into the cause of the fire immediately.
The fire has since been put under control.
