Officers from the Greater Accra Region Police Command on Wednesday night gunned down three suspected armed robbers near Ashaley-Botwe and are hunting for a fourth person.
The group of four young men armed with pistols and knives engaged the services of a taxi driver to transport them from Kotoku to Dome, in the Ga East Municipality.
While in the middle of their journey the alleged robbers snatched the Nissan Micra taxi cab with registration number, GR5251-13 from its driver.
The screams of the taxi driver drew the attention of a police patrol team in the area.
Upon seeing the police closing in on them, the robbers opened fire and the police fired back, wounding the three robbers while the taxi car headed into a ditch.
The robbers died while they were being sent to hospital. The fourth suspect took to his heels although sustaining bullet wounds. He is believed to be hiding around Ashaley-Botwe, Madina, Adenta or nearby areas.
A search on the taxi revealed three locally made pistols, 20 live cartridges, two used cartridges, one foreign revolver and a sharp knife.
