Low Turn-out in Buem By-election

Ballot boxTurnout has been low in the ongoing Parliamentary by-election in Buem in the Volta Region.

Residents are electing a new Member of Parliament after the demise of Henry Ford Kamel, who was elected in the 2012 general elections and also served as regional minister.

Joy News Volta Regional correspondent Ivy Setordzi said the residents are still mourning their late MP’s death was also the Regional Minister.

They wish the by-election could have been postponed for at least a week or two.

Setordzi reported that turnout in the late minister’s hometown is even worse.

Four candidates are contesting the election with 43-year-old marketer and NDC parliamentary candidate Kwasi Ashiamah in pole position to win.

The opposition New Patriotic Party boycotted the by-election as the party challenges the results declared in the 2012 election by the Electoral Commission.
