Residents of Achimota a suburb of Accra will on Monday embark on a peaceful demonstration to protest against the continuous dumping of refuse from several parts of Accra in the area.
According to some residents, the danger this activity as permitted by the AMA posses to them are life-threatening and as such are calling on the Accra Metropolitan Assembly and all associated bodies to ensure an immediate relocation of the dumping site.
233livenews recalls that the AMA recently called for a ‘suspension’ of refuse dumping at the site in Achimota while disclosing the assembly’s plan of constructing a well-engineered landfill site outside the capital.
Refuse or waste management in the capital city of Ghana has been a major challenge for several year with very little being made of better alternatives such as recycling, energy production and so on.
The residents will converge at the Achimota Bus Terminal at 6am on Monday to put their concerns before the AMA. Accra Mayor Nii Okoh Vanderpuiye and Member of Parliament for Okai Koi North, Hon. Elizabeth Sackey will be present.
