A fuel tanker has exploded around Anyinamso number one in the Ashanti region, Citi News can confirm.
Two persons are reported dead while several items and property worth several thousands of Ghana cedis are said to have been destroyed.
An eyewitness, Mahama Mustapha said: “I was at Anyinamso number one on my way to Kumasi when I saw a tanker on fire burning some cars and other things around it. The Fire Service just arrived at the scene,” he stated.
Mustapha further stated, “I have been here for seven minutes and other cars and stores are on fire… When we got here, we were not allowed to pass. The Fire Service is now trying to put out the fire”.
The dead, suspected to the tanker driver and his mate are said to be burnt beyound recognition as two cars were involved in the inferno.
The local people were left with little option to salvage their valuables as the fire was fast razing structures nearby.
The driver of the fuel tanker was reported to have lost control of the steering while while he was descending a hill towards the village hence hit a speed ramp and overturned resulting in a loud explosion.
The Ghana National Fire Service were at the scene to bring the fire under control but had a difficult time as they ran out of water at some point.
